Most dentures are removable and require cleaning and maintenance.

Different types of dentures come under the categories of full dentures and partial dentures.:
- A conventional full denture is when any remaining teeth are removed and once the area and tissues have healed satisfactorily it is inserted into the patient’s mouth. In some cases this means that patient’s may be without teeth for several months.
- Immediate dentures are placed at the same time that remaining teeth are removed so that the patient never goes without teeth.
- An Implant-supported denture is connected to implants that have been placed into your jaw bone; they are more stable than conventional or immediate dentures and are the closest option to natural teeth in look and feel. An implant supported denture may be fixed (where it can only be removed by your dentist) or removable (where you can remove and clean the denture yourself).
- Partial dentures are used to replace one or a few missing teeth only and are help in place by ‘clips’ that attach to your remaining natural teeth. Partial dentures can be made from a variety of materials including acrylic (plastic) or metal. A Metal-based partial denture provides greater wear resistance and strength than acrylic.
